Whenever people ask me “What is blogging?”, I tell them that it is nothing more than putting down your thoughts online. The term actually comes from “web log”, and combined those words make “blog”. They are normally, but not always, written by one person and updated frequently.

You don’t have to be an English teacher, a Pulitzer Prize author either to be a blogger. The best bloggers simply write in a conversational tone the same way that you would speak to a friend. So don’t worry about perfect grammar.

You can also use video in your blog if you’re more of a visual person than a writer.

You can write a blog about practically any topic you can think of. Just choose a topic that you’re passionate about, whether it is network marketing, knitting, spirituality or surfing and you can create a blog about it.

People blog for a variety of reasons. Some blog strictly as a way to get their thoughts out there for everyone to see. Others blog to make money. The great thing about blogging however, is that you don’t have to choose one or the other. You can combine them. That is called marketing. Another term used to describe it is monetizing your blog, which simply means using it to make money.

To understand how you can market or promote something with blogging, let’s talk about affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing means that you simply sign up to promote a product; you don’t actually work for that company. You’re more of an independent contractor and it’s FREE to become an affiliate for most vendors.

Generally, people who sign up to promote a product are doing so because they use it and they love it, and that is what makes your promoting it much easier. It’s hard to talk about a product that you don’t love; at least I know I can’t. Keep in mind that to maximize your revenue that you might want to consider what the hot items are out there. Anything that is popular out there is something you should consider marketing as an affiliate.

Another platform to make money blogging with is called adsense. Adsense is a campaign that allows companies to run their ads off of your blog, and this works by monitoring of your content. There are companies out there that monitor anything new in the search engines, so when these companies locate your content they can attach to your blog. Just like affiliate marketing people could come across your blog and click on those ads, and any sales will pay you out commissions.

The most popular form of Ad-Sense is of course, Google Adsense. With Google adsense you are importing links directly from Google and whenever someone clicks on those links on your blog, you earn a small fee. There are some bloggers that earn a fortune from Google adsense.

So, hopefully your question “What is blogging” has been answered, but whichever method you choose, it’s not to be entered into lightly. You need the proper training or you can lose a lot of time and money trying to figure it out on you own.
